I have climbed to the top of the tallest tree...

I finally managed to finish another little painting/illustration type thing (photos still not quite right- maybe I need a scanner?). It really is a slow process - because I am doing this while Yashar naps - it always seems that just when I have got everything ready and am starting to get into it I hear a little voice and the door to his room rattling as he tries to grab onto the door handle from his cot. But that's ok - it's fantastic to be able to have this time to spend making things and then time to spend with Yashar as well.

I was inspired to do this one when I heard this song:
I have climbed to the top of the tallest tree
And no one knows I'm here
And I could hide for hours and hours
And I can see for miles
And I have never fallen
And I will not come down
And the sun is shining

I don't know the name of the track or who made it so if you know please leave a comment - I would love to know.

While I was doing the last picture I think I mentioned that I wanted to work on colour with this one. So I looked at magazines and just around the place generally for groups of colours I liked. Then I spent a lot of time just mixing paints and making little swatches to play around with. Of course I still want to work on colour more, but I am happy with how it turned out.

I made it for my dear little niece Ruby and thought the colours would be cute in a little girls room. I am so sad to be missing out on seeing her grow (she is just a few months younger than Yashar). So I hope my sister can point to the picture and tell Ruby about her Aunty Verity.

You made me cry. I miss you so much. I can't wait for you to spend some time with little Ruby when you come home for a visit. She has such an infectious smile with two little teeth. I will love showing her your beautiful illustration and telling her all about you and your little family on your Istanbul adventure. xxx

The picture is gorgeous and I love the little squirrel. I am sure little Ruby will be very proud as she grows older to have it in her room. Clever girl.

Gorgeous picture and lucky niece. Its so hard living far away from family especially a sister. I'm excited with a tinge of sadness about my sister having babies one day, because I am going to miss out on so much being so far away, and the little cousins won't get to know each other so well.:( Don't like to think about it too much!!!

Gosh, V, you are so talented. This picture is like something out of a children's picture book. Your niece will love it.

Gorgeous such a dreamlike picture! Its the perfect colours too.

I have a wee niece I havent seen (apart from pics)since she was a few days old...shes now 2! I take comfort that Ben, our eldest, has a special relationship with her as he lived weekends with my sister when he was at boarding school and now, although he lives and works a train ride away, visits whenever he can. Im sure he gets a bit sick of all my questions about little Gracie!!

Thanks for visiting my blog! Dewi sent me your blog link b/c she thought we'd have some things in common. I love this illustration and I know the song, if a woman is singing it. A friend made me a CD with this song on it, so I can ask him about the title and artist. I also know what it's like to miss out on nephews and nieces growing up, I have 3 nephews and 1 niece and I miss them terribly but treasure each visit we have together when I am able to travel back to Michigan.
